Evaluation of crime reduction schemes

BRE Crime Risk Management Team has a wealth of experience in evaluating crime reduction and community safety projects. Our approach incorporates both quantitative and qualitative measures, including statistical analysis of facts and figures and interviews with key personnel.

Examples of types of schemes that we have evaluated include:
· Home security services
· Domestic violence help lines
· Utilisation of project support workers
· Community engagement schemes
· Youth diversion schemes
· Outreach workers

The evaluations include examinations and analyses of:
· Process evaluation, concentrating on implementation and delivery issues
· The impact on the number and type of crime/incident/behaviour
· The costs and benefits
· Inputs, for example the training and resources of staff
· Management and delivery
· Publicity initiatives
· Displacement issues

Our service can assist local authorities and CDRP representatives to make realistic decisions regarding their projects by assessing:
· Which projects are working and which can be discarded
· How to measure the success of projects
· Whether the objectives of the projects have been met
· Whether they are cost effective
· The strengths and weaknesses of the projects
